Recent News at CD Gardens:

RFP Submission: Randolph Houses, Central Harlem

CD Gardens had the pleasure of joining BOS Development, Exact Capital, and GF55 Partners in submitting a proposal for the rehabilitation of the Randolph Houses in Central Harlem. The project is the first of its kind in New York City, as it is a joint public/private venture that combines public and affordable housing under one roof. CD Gardens was charged with designing the open space scheme, which ranged from aesthetic streetscape improvements to the design of a community garden and daycare playground. View our portion of the proposal HERE, and read more about the Randolph House redevelopment HERE.

Lecture: North Country Garden Club of Long Island

Christian Duvernois was honored to speak at NCGC’s opening meeting of the 2011-12 year. Before a crowd of roughly 80 members, Mr. Duvernois presented a lecture on the architecture and gardens of Trianon at Versailles. Many thanks go out to the organizers of the event, and to the people at OLD WESTBURY GARDENS who provided a lovely private tour of their house and grounds after the lecture.

Artist Collaboration: Khalil Chishtee

CD Gardens, in conjunction with the CASTLE BRAID CO. in Brooklyn, NY, recently initiated an on-going collaboration with sculptor, KHALIL CHISHTEE, that includes a series of BENCHES, and a system of interpretive signage for navigating the newly restored courtyard.

Artist Collaboration: Vicky Colombet

CD Gardens, in their pursuit to introduce contemporary artists into the garden, recently completed their first collaboration with artist, VICKY COLOMBET. The piece, a 33″ diameter etched glass gold leaf mirror tondo, depicts an abstracted aerial view of the Forbidden City. It is a reflection, both literally and metaphorically, of it’s Chinese-inspired context, and the materials and method used are consistent with Ms. Colombet’s new work in glass. Cecilia Bartoli at Versailles, June 28-30, 2011

In conjunction with MATT HANNAN TRAVEL, CD Gardens is excited to host a five day tour to Paris and Versailles that will culminate with a concert at the Royal Opera of Versailles by famed mezzo-soprano, Cecilia Bartoli. Along the way guests will be treated to a private viewing of The Louvre led by specialist Sabine de la Rochefoucauld; a full day’s excursion to the 17th century chateau, Vaux le Vicomte; a visit to the 18th century Anglo-Chinese folly garden, Desert de Retz; and a tour of the private apartments and closed royal chambers at the Palace of Versailles, the André Le Notre-designed gardens and bosquets, and the private theater and hamlet of Marie Antoinette at Petit Trianon.

FI:AF Gardens for Gourmets – New York City Garden Tours

CD Gardens was delighted to welcome The French Institute Alliance Français’ annual NYC Garden Tour at two of our Upper East Side gardens. The event, part of FI:AF’s Gardens for Gourmets series, was curated by Marie-Dominique Deniau-Sorman, and some forty participants were in attendance for the all access pass to four distinct Manhattan gardens. Many thanks go out to FI:AF for hosting the event, and to URBAN GARDENS for covering the event.
